I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. From its opening in 1736 to its ending in 1782, BELOVED follows the lives of Christina, the daughter of a silk merchant, and Richard, the young man and son of a baron to whom she is betrothed, as well as several family members. The two grow up loving one another and seem destined to enjoy a blessed life together. But the violent murder of her brother and the machinations of a rather jealous man combine to force these two lovebirds apart for a very long time. With diverse settings—an abbey, a noble house, a cottage on Corsica, Venice—this tale follows their struggles as these two build alternative lives while still holding onto the memory of what they should have had together. Rich in detail, sometimes happy and sometimes heartbreaking, this book came oh-so-close to being a romance novel (it didn't qualify) and yet still managed a very satisfying ending.Product details
